OSCE HISTORICAL ROLE IN REGIONAL GOVERNANCE: LECTURE
Today, at the initiative of YSU International Cooperation Office, a public lecture entitled "Historical Role of OSCE in Regional Governance" was delivered.
The lecture was attended by students, lecturers, young researchers and academics interested in political science, history and security as well as regional and international issues.
Presenting the OSCE, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the speaker said that it was established in 1973 and is the largest international security organization in the region. The OSCE consists of 57 states from Europe, Central Asia and North America. All OSCE member states have equal status.
The OSCE, through political dialogue, is working to provide peace, democracy, stability for more than a billion people on common values and practical work for long-term achievements.
The mission of the organization is to prevent emerging conflicts in the region. The main means of prevention and settlement are arms control, diplomatic efforts, conflict resolution, creation of mutual trust and security, protection of human rights, establishment of democratic institutes, as well as election monitoring, economic and environmental security.
Through its professional structures, expert subdivisions, field missions, the OSCE engages in issues that affect our overall security, including arms control, terrorism, good governance, energy security, human trafficking, democratization, media freedom, and national minority rights.
During the public discussion after the lecture, the audience voiced their concerns and exchanged views.
