SOCCAMP - SOCIAL NON-FORMAL CONFERENCE AT YSU
On June 30, 2008, 4th edition of the Social Non-formal Conference "Soccamp" was opened at YSU. YSU Faculty of Sociology SSS organizes this event, which becomes a platform for analyzes on social sciences.
The conference enables you to speak about scientific issues in a non-formal way. Anyone who wants to be a free listener or rapporteur can attend it.
This year 5 special guests are participating in the event: Head of the Chair of History and Theory of Sociology Harutyun Vermishyan, lecturer of the Faculty of Journalism Hrach Bayadyan, Sociology Faculty lecturer Zhanna Andreasyan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan and social anthropologist Alina Poghosyan.
The topics of the event are diverse. The choice of topics is mainly related to the events that took place during the year.
The event was opened by the Chairman of the SSS of YSU Faculty of Sociology Shushanik Harutyunyan: "It's a pleasure to have the Soccamp expanding its scope, including people from other universities and organizations."
RA Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mane Tandilyan, who was the special guest of the event, was unable to attend the conference due to her visit to Artsakh. In her message, Mane Tandilyan expressed her pleasure that non-formal tools were put into practice: "You can find the tools that should lead us to socially safe Armenia."
The Director of DVV International, Ester Hakobyanalso made welcoming remarks.
The first report was delivered by YSU Faculty of Sociology lecturer Zhanna Andreasyan, who spoke of what sociology was doing during the revolution.
"We simply do not know our knowledge. Science cannot be apolitical. We must realize that every element of "knowledge" goes out into the square and becomes available for different groups," - said Zhanna Andreasyan.
Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, speaking about science problems, said: "Science cannot develop if it does not have freedom." He also spoke about the penetration of sciences into each other and told about Daniel Kaneman, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2002 for the introduction of "psychological methods."
The lecture by Hrach Bayadyan, lecturer of the Chair of Journalism and Communication at the Faculty of Journalism, was about media and cultural studies: "We are studying the images that the society creates about itself." He emphasized the importance of media literacy, referring to the most informative countries in this respect and mentioning that Armenia inherited the problems of media literacy from Soviet times.
After telling about his graduating students, Hrach Bayadyan presented the results of research on patriotic films and synthesis, adding: "We live in media and with media".
Harutyun Vermishyan also made a report, and after the break the speeches continued in the lobby and YSU Big Hall.
