MASTER DEGREE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS OF COMMUNITY PROBLEMS
The final event of the program titled "Support to Study - Investment for Future" was held today. It was implemented by YSU Alumni and Career Center and "UMCOR Armenia" Charity Foundation.
During the event, participants received certificates and 10 students were given an opportunity to receive Master's Degree free of charge and to implement their innovative projects to address community issues.
The project was launched in February of 2018. Within the framework of the program YSU Rector Aram Simonyan and UMCOR Armenia Fund signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at presenting students of Sociology and Economics and Management faculties as well as informing about the program.
About 20 students from provinces (4th year, Bachelor's degree) participated in the trainings on project development and implementation. Students developed community development programs and, as a result, the authors of the 10 best programs were given the opportunity to continue their education at the Master's Degree.
"UMCOR Armenia" charity foundation will support implementation of more effective programs. Community development programs developed by students can then be the basis for master theses. As a result of the training, students gained skills related to presentation and funding features.
"It was originally planned that the winners should be 8, but in the end, the number of winners was 10, due to the relevance of the development programs developed by the students. The students offered healthcare, agriculture and water supply programs. These were excellent programs, students had studied their problems in details," - said Armine Hajatyan, an Alumni and Career Center employee.
It was crucial that program participants were students from regions who had the opportunity to continue their studies at the magistracy and contribute to their community development. Students from any social group were selected to participate.
And five students who did not overcome the final stage of the program were awarded with tablets.
"We have been cooperating with UMCOR Armenia for a long time. This project coordination, dissemination of information and student recruitment were carried out by the Alumni and Career Center, and the skills development courses were organized by the foundation," - added Armine Hajatyan.
He noted that "UMCOR Armenia" is implementing various projects and one of the goals of this program was to reveal the problems in the provinces through the students living in provinces.
