YSU FACULTY OF ORIENTAL STUDIES SUMMARIZES LAST ACADEMIC YEAR
The Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Ruben Melkonyan presented the report on the faculty activity during the last year and spoke about new initiatives.
At the beginning of the expanded meeting the Chairman was elected and the agenda was confirmed afterwards.
Having greeted those present Mr. Melkonyan presented in brief the achievements of the faculty gained last year. “I have to admit that the previous year was full of various events, achievements and programs”.
Ruben Melkonyan was elected Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies a year ago and during the current report he also referred to the points included in his pre-election program most of which have been implemented.
The Dean mentioned that “A free microphone” platform had been created at the faculty due to which students have voiced the problems of their concern. The majority of those problems were settled.
Among numerous scientific achievements of the faculty the Dean outlined the “The First Annual International Congress on Oriental Studies” stressing that it should become regular. Touching upon further activities Mr. Melkonyan informed that the conference entitled “Oriental readings” is going to start at the Faculty of Oriental Studies in December which is held once in two years.
In his report the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies attached importance to the event organized on 50th jubilee of the faculty foundation which had become an event of the republican significance both with its representation –the RA President, ministers and diplomats and with the positive responses it got in the media.
The strategic program of the faculty provides for the improvement of the conditions of teaching languages. This year we have a linguaphone lab due to the support shown by the United Arab Emirates, and currently were are studying the possibility of having a lab for simultaneous translations at the Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology”, said the Dean.
In his report Mr. Melkonyan spoke about each chair of the faculty one by one, stressed the achievements of his colleagues and their contribution to the faculty development. He also thanked the student structures for their contribution to the success of the faculty.
After the Dean’s report, the head of the Chair of Turkish Studies Alexander Safaryan and the head of the Chair of Iranian Studies Vardan Voskanyan performed their speeches. Both of them highly appreciated the work done by the Dean.
The meeting was concluded with the speech of Rector Aram Simonyan who in addition to the appreciation of the faculty results spoke about further plans which will make the achieved results regular.
