“MARKUS TULLIUS CICERO vs LUCIUS SERGIUS CATILINA”: MOOT COURT AT YSU FACULTY OF LAW
On the initiative of the Chair of Theory and History of State and Law of YSU Faculty of Law and the Student Council the moot court was organized for the freshmen.
The moot court was organized within the scope of “History of State and Law of Foreign Counties” course. The assistant and lecturer of the Chair of Theory and History of State and Law Karen Amiryan informed that the main goal of the moot court is to develop the skills of legal thinking, correct legal judgment and construction of logical speech at students.
According to the scenario of the moot court the students were taking part in the trial of the Ancient Rome Senate where Marcus Tullius Cicero came up against Lucius Sergius Catilina. The Senate was divided into two main groups: one group thought that the accused was to be sentenced and the other group thought that the accused is to be justified or get soft punishment. Finally, the Senate decided not to sentence Catilina to death but to life imprisonment.
