REPORT ON “GREEN JOB MARKET ASSESSMENT” TO BE MADE AT YSU

The deputy director of YSU Alumni and Career Centre Karine Nazaryan informed that in spring, by the order of GIZ organization, “EV Consulting” company carried out “Green Job Market Assessment” research (for more Information) in which it got support from YSU Faculty of Biology and the Alumni and Career Centre. The results of the research were presented at YSU and the discussion related to it.

According to Karine Nazaryan, the research aims at strengthening the ties between the job market in the sphere of biology and the Faculty of Biology of YSU.

The YSU Vice-Rector for Students, Alumni and Public Relations Ruben Markosyan greeting those present spoke about the importance of such research.

“On the platform of university-employer we often face the problem when universities are unable to meet the requirements of employers and the students of universities claim that employers can’t clearly formulate their requirements. We should understand what the requirements of employers are, to what extend they correspond to the circle of skills set before university graduates, what the universities can do to be relevant to their academic title and to the organization providing their higher professional education”, said Mr. Markosyan.

The Dean of the Faculty of Biology Emil Gevorgyan stated that significant work had been done in this direction and the results are noticeable. Due to the results they can reconsider the curriculum and make it relevant to the requirements set for the alumni of the faculty.

The director of YSU Alumni and Career Centre Lilit Hakobyan briefly presented the activity of the centre and expressed hope that the cooperation with GIZ will be long-term.
The consultant of the Integrated Biodiversity Management for South Caucasus supported by the GIZ Alla Belbelyan thanked for the support to the Faculty of Biology and Alumni and Career Centre.

“Employment of the youth is a serious problem not only in Armenia but the worldwide as well. Tight ties between the job market and educational system can reduce unemployment among young specialists.

The representatives of “EV Consulting” made surveys by the order of GIZ and presented their research in “Green job market assessment”. The surveys were made both among employers and alumni. According to it, employers find it difficult to get good specialists as besides theoretical knowledge they attach importance to practical knowledge and other not professional skills such as foreign languages, software knowledge and so on. It was also noted that YSU alumni are preferred by the employers at “green” job market.
