WORLD ARABIC LANGUAGE DAY TO BE MARKED AT YSU

The YSU Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Alexander Grigoryan, the head of the Department for International Cooperation Alexander Markarov, the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Ruben Markosyan, Professor Gurgen Melikyan, the head of the Chair of Arabic Studies Hayk Kocharyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lebanon to Armenia H.E. Maya Dagher, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Armenia H.E. Jassim Mohamed Al Qasemi, the Ambassador of Egypt to Armenia Baha al-Dasuki, representatives from Iraq, lecturers, students were present at the event organized by the Chair of Arabic Studies.

The Dean of the Faculty Ruben Melkonyan congratulated those present on the event. “We have been officially studying Arabic for 50 years. I’d like to state with delight that the Chair of Arabic Studies is one of the linguistic and cultural centres of the region where qualified and experienced teaching staff is united. The Chair of Arabic Studies is the best platform where healthy linguistic and intercultural dialogues are held”.

In his greeting speech Hayk Kocharyan stressed that he is happy that this day has become a tradition. The students of the faculty came up with mucisal performances, presented their essays on Arabic traditions and habits.

The works by the authors creating in Arabic Gibran Khalil Gibran and Nizar Qabbani were recited. The video telling about the trip of the students won in the essay contest to the United Arab Emirates was shown during the event.

The students who have been sent to Kuwait to improve their language skills prepared and sent their video bout their routine at Kuwait University.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp greeted the traditions of Armenian-Arabic relationship and handed the students the certificates for high-level presentation in Arabic. It should be noted that Arabic is one of the 6 official languages of the UN.

During the event the ambassadors of the Arabic countries summarized the results of “The best essay”. The students recognized winners are: the 3rd year student of the Faculty of Arabic Studies Anahit Bazeyan, the students of Master’s program Ara Matevosyan and Anna Simonyan.
