“I REALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND THE DEFINITION OF “PRO-GOVERNMENTAL” AND “NON-GOVERMENTAL” CANDIDATES”: NEW CHAIRMAN OF YSU BOARD OF TRUSTEES GEVORG MURADYAN
During his Q&A with the journalists, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of YSU Gevorg Muradyan referred to a number of issues.
Speaking about YSU financing Gevorg Muradyan referred to the international experience and stressed that the main problem is that YSU gets its main financing from tuition fees.
“YSU gets 70-80% of its financing from tuition fees while the experience of world universities evidence that it’s desirable that tuition fees won’t exceed 30% of the general financing. Financial inflows must be increased due to more effective work, active cooperation with international organizations, business. I think that we have moth the possibilities and the wish to make progress in this field”, said Mr. Muradyan.
Touching upon target effectiveness of all the costs made at YSU Mr. Muradyan answered that he hadn’t discussed these issues with the Rector yet.
In response to the question of the journalists how he estimates the work of the previous Board and the fact that the Board was headed by the President of the Country Serzh Sargsyan, Mr. Muradyan answered that for him it is important to what extend a person can get involved in the working process. Previously the functions of the Board were more supervising while now the functions will increase in accordance with the new law on education which is still under discussion. And this fact will make it possible to solve problems more effectively.
As regards his being defined as “pro-governmental” candidate Gevorg Muradyan answered that he really didn’t understand such classification into “pro-governmental” and “non-governmental” and considers them not serious.
“I really don’t understand such definitions: 32 members of the board used their right for voting and voted in accordance with the professional characteristics of the candidate”, said Gevorg Muradyan.
Speaking about his plans Mr. Muradyan mentioned that his aim is to make YSU more powerful for students, more science and research oriented for scientists so that working at YSU would become an honour for lecturers.
