SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES OF NEW GENERATION TO BE CREATED AT YSU
The scientific theme “Growth of conic and ellipsoidal quantum dots and islands in InAs-InAs-InSb material system and investigation of their electrophysical, magnetic and optoelectronic properties” presented by the Chair of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics of YSU Faculty of Radiophysics was guaranteed for the MES Science Committee financing.
The leader of the program is the acting head of the Chair of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics Karen Ghambaryan. The research group consists of 4 persons, 2 of which are young scholars and one is the postgraduate of the chair.
We talked to Professor Ghambaryan about the perspectives, goals and effectiveness of the mentioned above project. According to the Professor, the scientific theme refers to the sphere of semiconductors nanotechnology which is a highly important field in the world. “In some countries, such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, China the semiconductors nanotechnology is considered a fundamental science. Armenia has serious grounds to develop this sphere. Nanostructures have unique physical properties, and semiconductors nanotechnologies have a great practical significance.
The Professor informed that within the scope of the program at the Chair of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics and YSU Research Centre for Semiconductor Devices and Nanotechnologies, the scientific group is going to create nanostructures, particularly quantum dots, after which the physical properties of these nanostructures will be researched. “At the end of the program a semiconductor device- an infrared photodetector will be created. It is very important for solving various practical problems”, added K. Ghambaryan.
