“NEVER USE YOUR HONESTY DURING YOUR SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY”: YSU RECTOR MEET MEMBERS OF STUDENT SOCIETY

The director of the Centre of Student Affairs of YSU Vahagn Varagyan, the president of YSU SSS, his deputy and heads of commissions and faculty SSSs took part in the meeting.

The YSU SSS president presented the Rector the problem occurred at the beginning of the year, when HAC published the list of recognizable periodicals. “YSU SSS collection of scientific articles was before this annual journal, while in accordance with the new standards of HAC, the periodical must be published at least twice a year. We met with the head of HAC Smbat Gogyan, decided to draw up a new program and submit it to YSU Academic Council”.

Victor Sherents informed us that the presentation of the new issues of the collection will be held on February 20, at 14:30, in the Session Hall of YSU Academic Council.
Aram Simonyan assured the representatives of the SSS that all technical problems are solvable and advised them to pay more attention to the content of the published materials and provide their scientific nature.

“It is important to exclude plagiarism in published articles. Previously scientists were strictly reprimanded for it. Peoples’ attitudes seem to have changed but this phenomenon is a serious hinder for science development. I urge you to remember that plagiarism is very shameful. Never lose your honesty during your scientific activity”, stressed YSU Rector.

The leader of the SSS of the Faculty of Sociology Shushanik Harutyunyan offered to include a training telling what scientific work is, how to do it, what standards to follow and so on in the bachelor program curriculum. “Sometimes students commit plagiarism unintentionally, they simply don’t know what plagiarism is and how to avoid it”, she said.

Aram Simonyan said that YSU administration had already taken actions in this regard. He informed that such a training will be started since September.
The leaders of YSU SSSs came up with proposals in response to which YSU Rector urged them to put them in the written form and submit. He promised the discuss them at YSU Academic Council.
