“INTERNATIONAL LAW MOOT COURT” CUP IS AT YSU AGAIN
YSU team won the first prize in “Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court” competition and will represent Armenia in Washington.
“Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court” is an annual competition founded by Harvard University. Armenia has been participating in this competition since 2000. The goal is to make independent research and studies into international law field by students of law departments. Students of law departments of nearly all countries take part in the competition.
In September of 2018 all participant teams were informed in advance about the legal problem sent from Washington, studied the sources of international law, made up necessary questionnaries both for prosecutors and defendants. Yesterday, on February 17, the inter-university stage was held in the building of the Cassation Court. The teams representing 4 universities of Armenia (French University in Armenia, Armenian-Russian University, American University of Armenia) competed against one another, and two teams passed to the final, in which YSU team became the winner.
The coach of YSU team Gevorg Poghosyan said that it was difficult to form a team as more than 70 students applied for the competition.
The members of the team are: the 3rd year student of Faculty of Law Zaven Vardumyan, the first year master program students of the same faculty Larisa Gevorgyan, Roza Karapetyan, Aghavni Avetisyan and the 2nd year master program student Gayane Manukyan.
According to the coach, the themes of the competition are the most actual problems of law which have no solutions yet. One of this year’s themes was the legality of creation of medicine needed by mankind via endangering flora and fauna.
YSU team is already preparing for the most prestigious “Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court” to be held in Washington.
