“ACADEMIC LEAVE AND PROBLEMS OF SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT” PUBLIC DISCUSSION AT YSU: ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE TO BE PRESENTED

The Dean of the Faculty of Physics Rafik Hakobyan and the Dean of the Faculty of Radiophysics Khachatur Nerkararyan, representatives of the teaching staff and students were present at the event.

The problems and necessary changes related to the right for academic leave for compulsory military service were presented during the discussion and the preliminary version of the required changes worked out by them were presented as well.

The researcher of the Chair of Semiconductor Devices and Nanotechnology, PhD in Physics and Mathematics Hayk Zaqaryan noted that they worked out the mechanisms of giving academic leave from compulsory military service which are aimed at preservation of scientific potential, conception of alternative service and uninterrupted education, effective human resource management, principles of sphere separation. He also presented the alternative ways of compulsory military service worked out by them.

The member of “Scientific Community Armenia” initiative Astghik Hakobyan noted that after serving in the army students are usually less inspired with science. According to her, academic leave must be given to best students so that they could continue their education.

They plan to carry on the public discussions related to the theme.
