EVENT DEDICATED TO HOVHANNES TUMANYAN’S 150th AND VAHAN TEKEYAN’S 140TH ANNIVERSARY AT LOS ANGELES ST.GHEVONDYANTS CHURCH
At the behest of the “New Day” weekly newspaper, under the support of the patriarch of US Western Diocese Archbishop Hovnan Tereteryan, the literature event was organized on March at Los Angeles St Ghevondyants church dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan and 140th anniversary of Vahan Tekeyan.
Among the participants were: the Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles Armen Bayburdyan, the patriarch of the Western Diocese Archbishop Hovnan Tereteryan, the former patriarch Archbishop Vache Hovsepyan, the representatives of “Ramkavar Azatakan” party and other parties and organizations, the editor of “the new Day” weekly Hrach Sepetjeyan, the Dean of YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology Artsrun Avagyan, the head of the Chair of Armenian Literature after Academician Hrant Tamrazyan Samvel Muradyan, the Professor of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Gurgen Melikyan, the Associate Professor of the Chair of Armenian Language Norayr Poghosyan, American Armenian literature critic, Professor Oshin Keshishyan and others.
The literary and public legacy, facts from biography of Hovhannes Tumanyan were presented by Samvel Muradyan.
The portrait of Vahan Tekeyan was presented by Artsrun Avagyan. The writer was one of the founders of “Ramkavar Azatakan” party and always kept its ideological principles in his activity.
Artsrun Avagyan’s book dedicated to V. Teqeyan was presented during the event.
The profits from the book will be transferred to “The ne Day” weekly and “Qashatagh many-children families” foundation.
Professor Oshin Keshisyah described Artsrun Avagyan as a devoted literature specialist who considers the literature of Diaspora an indivisible part of Western Armenian literature.
At the end of the event the member of Glendale Town Hall Vrezh Aghajanyan thanked “The New Day” weekly editor Hrach Sepentjyan who also graduated from the Faculty of Armenian Philology of YSU. Professors Samvel Muradyan and Artsrun Avagyan also received thanksgiving diplomas.
The event was finished with a prayer delivered by Archbishop Hovnan Tereteryan.
