“AMERICAN PRESS ABOUT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE”: LECTURE AT YSU
Today YSU hosted the authors of “The Armenian Genocide: Prelude and Aftermath. As reported in the U.S.Press-the New York Times”- a father of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice, Reverend father, Archimandrit Vahan Ohanyan and Australian public figure Ara Katibyan who met YSU Rector Aram Simonyan at first and then made a report on the content of the book and its publication.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan greeted the representatives of the Mekitarist Congregation.
“I highly appreciate the work done by you and I hope that it will contribute to the development of Genocide Studies and will highlight unknown pages for students”. Said Mr. Simonyan during the meeting.
The Rector noted that numerous books about the Genocide which attracted significant interest had been printed in the university.
After the meeting with YSU Rector father Vahan Ohanyan and Mr. Katibyan met with the students and representatives of the teaching staff in YSU Paleans hall, presented the history of the book creation and answered the questions.
The representative of the Mekhitarist Congregation Ara Zargaryan greeted the guests and introduced the speakers, then told about the book. “The book involves 2666 articles published in the US Press related to the Hamidian massacres of 1894-1896, the slaughter of Adana, the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and the consequences of other genocides”.
Father Vahan Ohanyan greeting those present expressed gratitude for being hosted in these honourable walls. He spoke about three printed volumes and about other 8 ones to be published in which the features on the Armenian Genocide printed in the most famous American newspapers will be involved.
“Our united work lasted 12 years. It was started with “The New York Times”. We have tried to collect the most outstanding newspapers-“The New York Times”, “The Boston Daily Globe”, “The Chicago Tribune”, “The Christian Science Monitor”, “The Los Angeles Times” and “The Washington Post”. I hope, that by the end of the year all books will be launched”, said Vahan Ohanyan.
He also spoke about the articles included in the book. He told the students that there is an article in which it is told how the emigrated Armenians just seeing the photos of other emigrants fell in love with them and searched for them everywhere.
Mr. Katibyan spoke about the challenges they encountered while publishing the book.
The speakers thanked the benefactors who helped them to publish the book and mentioned that that is the reason why the book is not for sale.
After the speech the guests answered a number of questions.
