PUNISHMENT FOR FAKE NEWS AND DISRESPECT FOR AUTHORITIES: FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIMITATION OR IMPROVEMENT OF MEDIA ENVIRONMET?
The RF President Vladimir Putin signed the amendment to the law, according to which, spreading fake news and showing disrespect for the country authorities will be legally punished.
The Federal Service of Communication, Information Technology and Mass Communication Control of Russia –“Roscomnadzor” will block the mass media which publish fake news and the persons spreading it on the Internet will be fined.
Ysu.am talked on the topic with the experts of the sphere of journalism and sociology.
Mediamax.am editor, the lecturer of YSU Faculty of Journalism David Alaverdyan said that the amendment will have a situational character and will be applied when the state needs it.
In respond to the question if the amendment can serve a model for Armenia, the head of the Chair of Applied Sociology of the Faculty of Sociology Arthur Atanesyan noted that Armenia and Russia have different political cultures and the media field in Armenia is the freest in the EEC Area.
