CHECKING FACTS HAS BECOME EASIER AND MORE INTERESTING: A NEW GUIDELINE HAS BEEN CREATED
On the initiative of the Public Journalism Club a meeting was held in the TV room of the Faculty of Journalism of YSU during which the “Guideline for checking facts” was presented.
The guideline created by the Club was worked out within the frames of “Formation of the network for checking facts” project. Its aim is to promote development of the culture of checking facts in Armenian mass media.
At the beginning of the meeting the Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Naghash Martirosyan greeting those present attached importance to the process of development of the culture of checking facts.
The information safety expert, the author of the guideline Samvel Martirosyan said that the problem is wildly spread not only in Armenia but worldwide so creation of such a guideline was vital.
According to the expert, there are several methods of spreading disinformation and fakes today; One of them is gossip which has become institutional. Nowadays everyone can publish disinformation in social networks and it will be spread by media websites.
The regional expert of the “Washington Post”, the expert of “Formation of the network for checking facts” Harutyun Tsatryan stated that having such a guideline is important from the point of view off skills development, as checking facts is one of the main functions of journalists so it will be useful both for beginner journalists and students and for specialists and any consumer of online information.
