“THIS IS AN INTERESTING AND SYMBOLIC BEGINNING”: AMBASSADOR OF INDIA PRESENTS BOOKS TO THE CHAIR OF IRANIAN STUDIES
The Chair of Iranian Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Armenia H.E. Mr.Yogeshwar Sangwan.
The representatives of the Embassy and the university teaching staff were present at the meeting.
Greeting those present the head of the Chair of Iranian Studies Vardan Voskanyan noted that the day is significant for them as they are going to develop Indian Studies as an important direction of Oriental Studies.
“Everyone knows about the role of the Armenian community in India”, said Mr. Voskanyan. He added that development of Indian Studies at the Faculty as it can contribute to the restoration of the role of Armenian people.
It is the second time the Ambassador has visited the faculty. The aim of the visit is to present the books dedicated to India to the Chair of Iranian Studies. According to Vardan Voskanyan Indian Sanskrit is necessary for studying ancient manuscripts. Ambassador Yogeshwar Sangwan noted that after the effective discussions this event is a message to open a centre of Indian Studies.
The Ambassador also noted that they presented books “Zangak” publishing house, to “Armenian-Indian Friendship” NGO and to “Mkhitar Sebastatsi” educational centre.
The Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Professor Ruben Melikyan stated that they are creating a basis for one of the most important directions of Oriental Studies-the Indian Studies and that he is very glad for the cooperation. He claimed that the Chair of Iranian Studies has the potential and organizational skills to create and develop such a centre.
Then the Ambassador presented the books presented to the university.
