CHRISTIN PICHHOLZ TO DELIVER A LECTURE AT YSU
The Department of Genocide Studies of YSU Institute of Armenian Studies organized an open lecture entitled “Aghet und Shoa. Historical Developments in Comparison”.
The lecture was delivered by Christin Pichholz who works at “Lepsiushous” (House of Johannes Lepsius which is a research centre for Genocide Studies since 2011) and teaches at the Chair of Military History of Potsdam University.
She studies how Germans perceived ethnic violence during the World War I. With the scientific leader of “Lepsiushous”, historian Rolf Hosfeld she edited “The German Reich and the Armenian Genocide” volume.
“Shoa” is translated form Hebrew as “disaster, extermination”. The Jews use this word to describe the actions of Nazis aimed at extermination of Jews as an ethnos.
The head of IAS Department of Genocide Studies , Candidate of Historical Science Suren Manukyan, greeting those present referred to the theme of the lecture-the comparison of historical developments of the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust.
Christin Pichholz expressed gratitude for the invitation and said that it was a honour for her to be in Armenia. In her speech she referred to the political and public circumstances preceded two world wars.
She also spoke about the influence of Genocide Studies.
During the discussion Christin Pchiholtz noted that the Armenian Genocide is recognized in scientific and academic circles, and that denial is on a low level so it isn’t worth serious attention.
