WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY WITH HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER
May 3 is the World Press Freedom Day.
On this occasion YSU Faculty of Journalism hosted the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
Greeting the participants of the event the Dean of the Faculty Naghash Martisoryan congratulated them on the World Press Freedom Day and noted that in accordance with the “World Press Freedom-2019” index Armenia has improved its position.
In accordance with index published by the “Reporters Without Borders” international organization, Armenia has improved its position by 19 points getting the 61 place among 180 countries”, said Naghash Martirosyan.
Arman Tatoyan stressed the importance of the cooperation between the structure headed by him and journalists.
He presented the activity of HRD and touched upon the role of journalists in awareness.
He also outlined that hate speech has significantly increased and journalists are also identified with the personalities they take interview from. He stressed that people must not start hating the journalists because of their professional activity.
He also touched upon the fake pages and groups the number of which is rapidly increasing and developing. They spread hate speech and form certain attitude to law enforcement agencies and politicians.
The representative of the “American Bar Association” Hasmik Hakobyan spoke about the goals and mission of their organization.
After the speeches students addressed their questions to Hasmik Hakobyan about her activity in HRD and in settlement of problematic cases.
