The event was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of YSU.
Among those present at the event were the Chairman of YSU Board of Trustees Gevog Muradyan, the Vice-Rector on Academic Affairs Menua Soghomonyan, the Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy and International Cooperation Arsen Babajanyan, the representative of “Korea Foundation” in the RA Pak Hi Su, students of different faculties.
Arthur Israelyan, who coordinates the process of Korean studies, informed us that the idea of organizing studies of Korean in addition to Chinese and Japanese had appeared long before.
“One of my goals was to organize the studies of three Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese and Korean) at YSU. I have been working with Koreans since 2010. We have initiated the program and negotiated with “Korean Foundation” in Armenia since October 2018. As a result, a month later, due to YSU Rector’s support, the teaching of Korean was started, “ said A. Israelyan.
Mr. Israelyan is sure that the idea was successful, so the students of different universities can participate in paid Korean studies since September.
Since September, Korean will be included as the second Oriental language in the curriculum of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Faculty of International Relations.
Referring to the enthusiasm of students A. Israelyan noted that the love and interest towards the language appeared due to Korean culture.
During the event the students who study Korean presented the Korean cultural heritage: poems, songs and dances, a drama performance.
At the end of the event 52 students who studied Korean during the course got graduation certificates.
The certificates were handed in by the representative of “Korea Foundation” in Armenia Pak Hi Su.
