On June 3, this year, the Graduation and Closing Ceremony for the 2023-24 graduates of the "Media and Information Law" master's educational program took place in YSU Palenas Hall.
Professor Harutyun Khachikyan, Dean of YSU Faculty of Law, noted that the "Media and Information Law" master's educational program is implemented as part of the cooperation between YSU Faculties of Law and Journalism and Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
Emphasizing the important role of the educational program, especially for journalists, H. Khachikyan outlined the objectives of the master's program: to provide comprehensive knowledge on the legal regulations of legal relations arising in social media, to analyze and interpret international and domestic legal norms related to media and information law, to explore the relationships between sources of international law and domestic legislation, and to clarify key policies and practices in media and information law. These goals are both realistic and achievable for the graduates.
Stephan Malerius, Head of the Regional Programme Political Dialogue South Caucasus of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, also delivered a welcome speech. He highly appreciated the role and importance of the master's program and expressed readiness to continue cooperating in the future, particularly in providing student scholarships.
The works of graduates of the master's program Shushan Siradeghyan (topic: "The Problem of Transparency and Funding in Mass Media: Corruption Risks in Media", supervised by Associate Professor Arpine Hovhannisyan, Coordinator of the educational program), Lusine Ohanyan (topic: "Use of Fake News in Information Wars: Legal Regulations", supervised by Professor Armen Haykyants, Head of Civil Law Chair at YSU), and Armine Hayriyan (topic: "Problems of Freedom and Accessibility of Information in the Republic of Armenia", supervised by Candidate of Legal Sciences Shushanik Ghukasyan) were presented as the best master's theses.
Both the teaching staff and the students affirm that the program is important, effective, and necessary.
