On November 22 and 23, 2024, the inter-university moot court competition titled "Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure" was held at Arthurs Aghveran Resort. The event was organized as part of the cooperation between YSU Faculty of Law and the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ). Nine teams from YSU, French University in Armenia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Educational Complex, Northern University, Shirak State University, and Gavar State University submitted applications to participate in the competition.
The five teams with the highest scores participated in the oral stage: "YSU-1," "YSU-2," "Criminal Intellect" from French University in Armenia, "Contra Legem" from French University in Armenia, and "Femida" from Gavar State University.
On November 22, 2024, the teams met in the semifinal stage, and in the final stage, the teams "YSU-1" and "YSU-2" competed against each other.
The jury includes Winfried Schubert, former president of the Higher Regional Court of Naumburg and former president of the State Constitutional Court of Saxony-Anhalt (Germany); Mkhitar Papoyan, President of the Criminal Court of Appeals of the Republic of Armenia; Robert Papoyan, judge at the Criminal Court of Appeals of the Republic of Armenia; Vardan Poghosyan, prosecutor of Ararat Province; and Armine Fanyan, member of the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia.
By the jury's decision, the team "YSU-2" was declared the winner, receiving the trophy and awards from YSU Faculty of Law and the RA Prosecutor’s Office.
In the category of "Best Written Prosecution Position," the winner was the "YSU-2" team, while the "Best Written Defense Position" award was given to the "Femida" team from Gavar State University.
The "Best Prosecution Speech" award was given to Gor Karapetyan, a 4th-year student at YSU Faculty of Law. The "Best Defense Speech" award went to Edvard Movsisyan, a 1st-year master's student at the same faculty.
The "Best Rhetoric" award was presented to the "Criminal Intellect" team from French University in Armenia, while the "Best Argumentation" award was won by the "YSU-1" team.
Such inter-university events contribute to both the strengthening and development of partnership relations, and successfully transform into a necessary environment for the practical application of students' theoretical knowledge.
