On December 6, 2024, an interuniversity youth conference titled "Legal Issues of Environmental Protection in International and Domestic Contexts" was held in the courtroom of YSU Faculty of Law, dedicated to the memory of Professor Aida Iskoyan. The conference was organized at the initiative of the Research Center for Environmental Law named after A. Iskoyan and the RA Ministry of Environment.
The conference was attended by faculty members from various universities, as well as representatives from the RA Ministry of Environment. H. Khachikyan, Dean of the Law Faculty, in his welcoming address, wished success to the participants and presented the academic and pedagogical achievements of Aida Iskoyan, a dedicated scholar and pioneer of environmental law.
The conference aimed to provide students from universities across the country with an opportunity to conduct legal studies on various domestic and international environmental issues, and to offer a platform for discussing their findings with representatives of the authorized body in the field, environmental law scholars, other faculty members, and experts.
Within the framework of this initiative, students from undergraduate and graduate programs at different universities across Armenia presented legal analyses on a wide range of environmental topics. Ten of the best reports, selected by the conference organizing committee, were publicly presented by their authors.
The engaging and successful presentations were followed by active Q&A sessions. Students were awarded certificates of participation, and the top five students received commemorative gifts from the family of Professor Aida Iskoyan.
Representatives of the Ministry of Environment, highly appreciating the students' efforts, emphasized the importance of such events in the process of training future specialists. The National Coordinator of the Aarhus Convention, Mari Chakryan, expressed the ministry's satisfaction with this type of cooperation and conveyed the ministry's commitment to ensuring the continuity of this partnership.
Olympia Geghamyan, Head of the Research Center for Environmental Law named after A. Iskoyan, assured that the center is ready to contribute to the promotion of ecological education and the enhancement of ecological culture, particularly among young people, through various initiatives.
Recognizing these events as an important component of the educational process and a way to expand the network of researchers focused on environmental issues, both sides agreed to ensure their continuity and regional expansion.
