Economist, professor, and honored figure of science of the ASSR
Bashinjaghyan was born on May 26, 1895, in Tbilisi, in the family of prominent artist Gevorg Bashinjaghyan. In 1913, he graduated from the local 3rd male gymnasium, in 1917, from the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg University and was drafted into the army. From 1918-1919, Bashinjaghyan worked in Tbilisi judicial bodies.
In 1921, after the establishment of the Soviet regime in Georgia, he was appointed an investigator of the most important cases, and then the head of the investigation department of the Supreme Revolutionary Tribunal of the SSR of Georgia. In 1926-1928, Bashinjaghyan worked in the financial bodies of the Inter-Federation.
From 1927-1930, Bashinjaghyan worked at the Communist University of Transcaucasia named after 26 commissars as a political economy lecturer and assistant vice-rector of the educational department. From 1930-1933, he studied at the Institute of Economics of the Red Professorship in Moscow, after graduating he returned to Tbilisi and until 1936, worked in the regional committee of the Transcaucasus, in the council of people's commissars. In 1936, Bashinjaghyan moved to Armenia and worked in the Central Committee of the Armenian Communist Party, People's Commissariat of Justice of the ASSR.
From 1936-1971, Bashinjaghyan was a lecturer of political economy at YSU and head of the political economy department. During that time, he also taught at several other educational institutions in Yerevan.
In 1937, Bashinjaghyan became a professor.
From 1944-1947, he was also the Deputy Head of the Armenian Department of the Society of Cultural Relations of the USSR with Foreign Countries, from 1947-1949, he was the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs YSU, and from 1956-1957 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics.
20 Ph.D. theses were defended under his supervision.
He authored scientific books, pamphlets, and articles dedicated to the issues of economics, literature, art, and culture, as well as K. Marx and F. Engels' scientific biographies (Yerevan, 1968, Yerevan, 1970), also co-authored the political economy textbook "Pre-Monopoly Capitalism" (Yerevan, 1971).
In 1958, Bashinjaghyan was awarded the title of the honored figure of science of the ASSR, and the Order of Lenin (2).
Bashinjaghyan passed away on March 2, 1971, in Yerevan.
A commemorative plaque is attached to the wall of building No. 39 on Abovyan Street, Yerevan devoted to Bashinjaghyan.
