YSU team to participate in International Mathematics Competition
The YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics summarized the results of the YSU Student Mathematics Olympiad. The top 4 students will participate in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in Bulgaria scheduled for August.
During the Olympiad results summary, Arthur Sahakyan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, delivered a welcome speech. He noted that the YSU team first participated in the International Mathematics Competition in 2005. This year is jubilee year as the university team will be participating for the 20th time.
"We have undertaken active initiatives, providing students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge, achieve high results, and represent YSU on the international Olympiad stage. I hope we will achieve 'jubilee' results in this jubilee year," said A. Sahakyan.
This year, 24 bachelor’s and master's students, including students from the Russian-Armenian University, participated in the YSU Student Mathematics Olympiad.
Karen Keryan, Chairman of the YSU Student Mathematics Olympiad Committee and team coach, handed diplomas to the Olympiad participants, encouraging them to actively participate in the events initiated by the faculty.
While presenting the test details, he highlighted that the problems were related to various branches of mathematics, including mathematical analysis, linear algebra, and combinatorics.
"The Mathematics Olympiad held at the university is similar to the International Mathematics Competition in its nature and composition of problems. We expect that our team will achieve great success in the international competition, winning prize positions," said K. Keryan.
Students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics Hayk Karapetyan, Ruben Hambardzumyan, Vahagn Hovhannisyan, who received a first-class diploma in the university's Student Mathematics Olympiad, and Hamlet Petrosyan, who received a second-class diploma, will represent the YSU team at the International Mathematics Competition to be held in Bulgaria.
Hayk Karapetyan, a 2nd-year bachelor’s student at the YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, participated in the preliminary stage of the Student Mathematics Olympiad last year but did not achieve a high enough score to be included in the team for the international competition.
"This year, I made another attempt and succeeded. I should note that throughout my school years, I participated in school, national, and international Olympiads. Taking part in the International Mathematics Competition will allow me to communicate with top specialists in the field, forge new connections, and, of course, challenge myself in a more competitive setting," said the student.
Coach Karen Keryan is confident that the achievements in the IMC will elevate the students' recognition on the international stage, opening doors for collaborations with famous organizations of the world.
The successes of YSU teams in the international arena are remarkable, as evidenced by the increasing number of gold medal winners every year.
