During his visit to Yerevan State University, USAID Armenia Mission Director John Allelo met with YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, followed by a session with graduates and students of the "American Studies" master's program.
At the meeting between USAID Armenia Mission Director John Allelo and YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, discussions revolved around expanding cooperation between the two institutions, the process of the currently active programs, and the need for new initiatives.
Afterwards, John Allelo met with graduates and students of the "American Studies" master's program at the Sarkis and Marie Izmirlian Library of YSU. He presented and discussed the current professional challenges, future development prospects, the current stage of the U.S.-Armenia diplomatic relations and other issues. Additionally, he spoke about the programs implemented by the United States of America, noting: "USAID has been active in Armenia for over 30 years, with the U.S. government investing nearly $1.3 billion in programs across the country. Currently, we have 33 active programs spanning various sectors. We are engaged in almost every sector and partner with numerous colleagues and institutions to consolidate our efforts and broaden our scope of work."
At the end of the discussions, John Allelo listened to the views and approaches of future American scholars and provided comprehensive answers to their questions.
The "American Studies" Master's program is implemented by the Center for American Studies, established at YSU in 2020 as part of the "American Studies" program funded by the U.S. Embassy in Armenia (U.S. Department of State).
The program aims to train specialists who can apply their acquired knowledge and skills in various fields related to the U.S., including American politics and economy, media and public opinion, the U.S. government system and public policy, culture, and geography, etc.
