"During Soviet times, nearly all emigrants were repatriates": YSU researcher studies the choices of staying, emigration, and repatriation The study of issues concerning the Armenian diaspora, such as staying, emigration, and repatriation, has a broad scope; however, there are still unanswered questions. For instance, while the mass repatriation of 1946-1949 has been extensively researched, the question of why Armenians from Latin America were unable to repatriate during this period—despite many eventually doing so later—has not received sufficient attention. Tigran Ghanalanyan, Associate Professor at YSU Faculty of History, and his research team are currently researching this topic.
