“I WILL NOBODY PUT UNDER PRESSURE. ” YSU ACTING RECTOR SPEAKS ABOUT THE STRIKE
Mr. Gegham Gevorgyan, Acting Rector of Yerevan State University, explains today the strike and his own stance about the RA Law on Higher Education and Science.
It should be reminded that since November 6 a number of students of YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology and History have started a strike against the above mentioned project, according to which the subjects of "Armenian Language", "Armenian Literature" and " Armenian History" will not be compulsory for students of non-professional faculties.
As a result of the voting, the faculty professors, with the exception of several professors, went on strike demanding a meeting with the Minister Arayik Harutyunyan.
Mr. Gegham Gevorgyan, the Acting Rector of YSU, explained this situation.
According to him he had a meeting with the deans of YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology and History, faculty and activist students, to discuss the situation.
The Acting Rector of YSU added that he wants the specialists to be honest, saying what they are fighting for.
Speaking about his own position, Mr. G. Gevorgyan said that many are waiting for the time when he will pressure the demonstrators; “I will nobody put under pressure. ”
Asked the question if the YSU Rector is for this project, the Rector replied, yes, he is for free choice.
