THE STUDENTS ARRANGED A DISCUSSION WITH THE ACTING RECTOR OF YSU
Students protesting against the RA draft law on Higher Education and Science, met with the acting Rector of YSU and arranged for a meeting in the near future.
It should be noted that a number of students of YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology and History have organized a strike since November 6.
A number of students have continued the strike, but after meeting with the professors who supported them, the students addressed a letter to Mr. G. Gevorgyan.
In the letter, they suggested Gegham Gevorgyan to convene a meeting of the Academic Council to discuss not only the non-mandatory discipline of Armenian Language, Armenian Literature and Armenian History subjects at the universities, but also the behavior of the the minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, RA Arayik Harutyunyan.
The Rector responded by letter that objections to the controversial draft law had been sent to the Ministry, and the reply to the second point stated that YSU Academic Council did not have such authority.
Shortly after the sit-down strike, the YSU acting rector met with the demonstrators, listening to their questions and requests.
A number of demonstrators offered to meet and discuss the situation in the near future. Mr. Gegham Gevorgyan reached an agreement with them tomorrow and November 27 about the place and time of the discussion.
