SCIENTIFIC THEME: THERMODYNAMIC RESEARCH IN STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN DNA IS CONDUCTED AT YSU
The scientific theme “ Conformational transitions of human telomeric DNA caused by urea influence” presented by YSU Faculty of Physics has been guaranteed for financing by the MES Science Committee.
The leader of the scientific theme, the head of the Chair of Molecular Physics of the Faculty of Physics, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Eva Dalyan informed us that a new direction of anti-cancer therapy has been formed presently and it is connected with the targeted generation of non-canonic structures-G-quadruplex and i-motifs in the selected segment of genome DNA. Professor Dalyan explained that generation of such structures blocks telomeric synthesis or oncogene expression.
Understanding of the character of stabilization of destabilization forces influencing G-quadruplex and i-motif structures in the mentioned segments will make it possible to find the medication which causes targeted generation or destruction of such structures in certain segments of genome.
