Ambassador of Germany to Armenia visits YSU
At the invitation of YSU Institute of Armenian Studies (IAS), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia Viktor Richter visited YSU and got acquainted with the activities carried out at IAS.
The Institute of Armenian Studies planned to develop relations with EU member states, and in that context the meeting with the Ambassador was aimed at establishing and strengthening collaboration with German expert centers.
Evaluating the activities of the institution, the Ambassador noted that he will support the institute in forming and developing collaboration with leading German scientific and expert centers and universities. "I will be glad if the institute collaborates with German scientific centers in the future. The Institute of Armenian Studies is carrying out a lot of work in the direction of forming new concepts, and the embassy is ready to cooperate."
Vahram Petrosyan, Director of the Institute of Armenian Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor, said, “We highly appreciate the Ambassador's visit to the Institute of Armenian Studies and are ready to deepen our cooperation in the future. The Ambassador was impressed by the activity of the institute, in particular, the Research Laboratory of Armenian Historical Geography, Cartography and Problems of Armenian Diplomacy named after B. Harutyunyan, and knowledgeable specialists in the field."
After the tour of IAS, the Ambassador met with the institute's experts in the meeting hall of YSU Scientific Council. During the meeting, a discussion was held on the issues concerning Armenian-German relations and developments.
Naira Gevorgyan, Head of the Armenian branch of the "Friedrich Ebert" Foundation of Germany, was also present at the meeting. The Director of the Institute of Armenian Studies thanked the German Foundation for the collaboration, awarding certificate of appreciation to N. Gevorgyan.
It should be noted that currently the Institute of Armenian Studies collaborate with about ten foundations of the Federal Republic of Germany. Within the framework of collaboration with the Armenian branch of the "Friedrich Ebert" Foundation of Germany, IAS organized summer, autumn and winter schools this year on the topic "Armenia and EU values in the foreign political decision-making process", in which around 30 YSU students were involved.
Leading specialists from Armenia and abroad, including international scholars, historians and post-graduate students of the Institute of Armenian Studies, gave lectures at the school.
